Hillsboro, Ind- Mrs Bernice C. Haines, 78, of 377 S Walnut, Crawfordsville, died Wednesday (July 27, 1977) at the Ben Hur Nursing Home in Crawfordsville. She had been a patient week and ill several years. Born Dec. 24, 1898 in Richland Twp of Fountain County, she was the daughter of (James) Monroe and Ollie McGee Carpenter. She was married to Earl Haines, who died Nov. 1, 1942. Mrs. Haines was a retired school teacher. She retired in 1959 after 44 years of teaching in Fountain, Tippecanoe and Montgomery counties. She was a graduate of Mellot High and Madame Blakers Teachers College in Indianapolis. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crawfordsville, BPW Club and Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Harold (Fern) Schultz of Newtown and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Crumley-Williams Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received after 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. -- typed by Beth R
